Facts About Badgers

Eight species
There are eight species of badgers, which are grouped into three subfamilies: Melinao (badgers of Europe and Asia), Mellivorinae (honey badger) and Taxideinae (American badger). Asian stinking badgers of the genus Mydaus were classified in the genus Melinao, but recent research suggests that it is actually the relatives of ferrets.

Can run at a speed of 20 mph
Badgers are enraged animals and protect themselves and their young at all costs. Badgers are able to fight with much larger animals, such as wolves, coyotes and bears. In the short term, badgers can run at a speed of 19-20 mph (30-32 km/h).
