How Dwarfism and Midgetism Occurs

Midgets or dwarfs, as they are called men of little stature, long been attracting attention. In the past, in many royal courts midgets were kept for the amusement of the family. And one of the most famous midget of all time was in the 25th year of life is 90 cm high and weighs 11.5 kg.

Someone may be very high or very low, and yet be normal growth. Too high or too low growth is a result of a disease or disorder in the work of some glands.

Dwarfism is a term that usually describes the growth, which in adults can not exceed a height of about 147 cm. Dwarfism is often shared on a proportional and disproportionate.

Proportional can be seen in humans that have developed completely normal proportion of body parts, but they are much smaller than usual. In contrast to this, disproportionate dwarfism characterized by a slightly smaller or larger parts of the body than usual. Although hipotonia, or reduced muscular ability characteristic of this type of people, intelligence and life cycle are completely normal.

There are more than 200 different causes that cause dwarfism, but in 70% of cases, the main cause is a disorder of bone growth. Most disproportionately dwarf people have shorter legs of the abdominal part of the body, with a larger head.

Dwarves are often mentioned in the books of epic fantasy, such as Song of Ice and Fire, and Harry Potter, and in many films (Lord of the Rings as an example). During the Holocaust, the infamous Dr. Mengele used them for its inhuman experiments.
