Three species
There are three species of jackal: side-striped jackal (Canis adustus), golden jackal (Canis aureus) and black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas).

Side-striped…
Side-striped jackal is native to central and southern Africa. Unlike its cousin, a small black-backed jackal, that resides in the open plains, striped jackal primary habitat in the forests and thickets. Unlike other jackals; is not exclusively a carnivore, it is highly adaptable omnivore whose dietary habits depend on seasonal and local variations. Jackal is usually feed alone, although they were notable groups of up to 12 jackals that feed along the western Zimbabwean.

Golden jackal…
Golden jackal is the largest of all the jackals and the only kind of jackal residing outside Africa. Genetic studies have shown that it is allied closer to the gray wolf and coyote. Golden jackal is the most widespread species of jackal in the world, and is divided into 13 subspecies.

Black-backed jackal…
The smallest of all jackals, and is considered to be the longest living member of the genus dogs (Canis). The most aggressive of all the jackals, are known to attack animals much larger than themselves, and relationships within the pack tend to be quarrelsome.

Jackal in Egyptian mythology
Anubis in Egyptian mythology is the god of embalming with the head of a jackal, as well as the god of the dead and ruler of the underworld, the son of Osiris and Nephthys. The earliest mention of Anubis is in the Pyramid Texts. He has a wife, Anput, described exactly the same, as the goddess-jackal.

Resistant animal
It is resistant to high and low temperatures as well as dehydration. Per day can consume between 1.6 – 2.2 kg of various foods. It belongs to the group / class of mammals with very rapid metabolism.

Family
Golden jackal lives in pairs to the death. For young caring male and female. The perfect family. Females express incredible jealousy toward rivals. It kills only what they eat and brings prey to home. When there is a danger in familiar surroundings, the male is the one who is exposed and takes attention away from their families.

No genetic mutations
It has a natural gene regulation to preserve species. Do not reproduce in the first closely related. Nature has given it to be protected from unwanted genetic mutations.

A successful predator
Male spends 80% of time in hunting and preparation for hunting. When hunting in pairs percentage of catches is over 80% of each attempt. Can catch prey twice their weight. If in their territory have taken nothing more than 7 days, immediately changing territory.
